In this article, we will explore the south part of Bali and more concretely the different types of beaches. Surfs up, here we go! :)
South of Denpasar, only 30 minutes scooter/car ride is located Kuta Selatan region of Bali. Don't mistake it with Kuta on the west side, they have nothing in common but the name. Kuta Selatan is a calm and not so crowded with tourists region, where you can actually find some of the best beaches in Bali. There are more than 20 white sand beaches with turquoise, crystal clear water. What is interesting is that all those beautiful places have some "good to know" differences between each other.
On the east side of the region you will find all those commerce places with a lot of shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and places for Instagram photos. Nusa Dua, Pandawa beach and Melasti are some of the famous fancy places to be. They all are easily accessible, as you can park the car/scooter right next to the sand. Keep in mind that all of them have some small entrance fee.
Here comes the tricky part :) All the beaches on the south side of Kuta Selatan have thousands of stairs (some even don't have stairs, but just a rocky path down to the beach). No entrance fees, no bars, no restauratns, but just the pure beauty of the ocean. Green Bowl Beach, Lam's Beach and Nyang Nyang are hard to reach, but really amazingly beautiful. Let's not the 15-20 minutes workout up and down stops you visiting those magnificent beaches.
The West side of the area is a paradise for water sports lovers. The ocean is full of surfs and happy surfers enjoying the waves. A lot of surf schools can be found on Padang Padang Beach, Dreamland Beach and Balangan Beach. These are also easily accessible places by scooter/car and have some cafes, restaurants and shops.
In overall I rediscovered Bali with all those unrealistically beautiful beaches, all with white sand and transparent, blue water. This part of the island is ways more different than Ubud and the north, not so crowded and commercial and has so many different beaches that I haven't even dreamed about. You definitely should consider the south of Bali when visiting it, it's worth it.
